Who We Help

Sport rehab for every athlete

Most injured athletes face the same problem — returning too early and re-injuring, or staying out too long due to uncertainty. At Thrive, we take the guesswork out. Every return-to-sport program is built around your injury, your sport, and the physical demands of your position — with clear milestones at every stage.

Community & team sport

Football, rugby league, AFL, cricket, netball, basketball, soccer — we understand the physical demands of your game and what's needed to get back on the field, court or pitch safely.

🏃

Recreational & fitness athletes

Running, CrossFit, gym training, cycling, racquet sports — if it matters to you and you've been sidelined by injury, we'll build a program to get you back moving the way you want to.

🎽

Youth & junior athletes

Growing athletes need careful, age-appropriate rehabilitation. We factor in growth plates, training loads and the specific risks facing younger players to keep them on the field long-term.

🏆

Semi-professional & competitive

Higher performance demands, tighter timelines and more is at stake. We work around your training schedule and liaise with coaches and medical staff to support your return at the right time.

How It Works

A clear path from injury to performance

Return to sport is a process, not a date. Each stage has specific goals and criteria that must be met before progressing — so there's no guessing and no unnecessary setbacks.

Stage 1
Assess & Plan
A thorough assessment of your injury, movement quality, strength deficits and sport-specific demands. We diagnose the problem, set realistic goals, and build a program around your timeline and your sport.
Stage 2
Rebuild & Strengthen
Hands-on treatment combined with progressive exercise to restore range of motion, rebuild strength, and address the root cause of injury. Load is carefully managed to promote healing without setback.
Stage 3
Sport-Specific Training
Once basic strength and mobility benchmarks are met, training shifts to the demands of your sport — running, change of direction, jumping, throwing, contact — with load, volume and intensity built progressively.
Stage 4
Return-to-Play Clearance
Formal criteria-based assessment before full return — strength symmetry testing, functional movement benchmarks, sport-specific performance testing. When you pass, you're cleared with confidence — and with a prevention plan to stay on the field.

Common Questions

Frequently asked questions

How do I know when I'm actually ready to return to sport?

Readiness to return isn't just about being pain-free — it's about restoring the strength, power, coordination and confidence needed to perform safely under the demands of your sport. We use validated strength symmetry tests, functional movement benchmarks and sport-specific drills to assess readiness objectively. You'll never be cleared based on a timeframe alone.

Do I need a referral to see you for a sports injury?

No referral is needed for most appointments. You can book directly online or call us. If you're claiming through Medicare under an Enhanced Primary Care (EPC) plan, you'll need a GP referral — we can guide you through that process. WorkCover and CTP claims also require a referral from your treating doctor.

Can you communicate with my coach, surgeon or team trainer?

Absolutely. With your consent, we're happy to liaise with your coach, GP, specialist or sporting club trainer to keep everyone on the same page. For post-surgical cases, we send progress reports to your surgeon. For club athletes, we can provide training modifications or return-to-play guidance directly to coaching staff.

What makes sports rehabilitation different from regular physiotherapy?

Sports rehabilitation goes beyond symptom management. We assess your sport-specific movement patterns, strength demands and load tolerance, then build a progressive program that bridges the gap between basic recovery and full athletic performance. The goal isn't just to get you out of pain — it's to get you performing at the level you need to be at.

How long does a return-to-sport program take?

It depends entirely on the injury. A mild ankle sprain may resolve in 4–6 weeks. An ACL reconstruction typically takes 9–12 months for full return to contact sport. We'll give you a realistic timeline at your initial assessment and update it as you progress through each stage.

I play for a community club — can we set up a club partnership?

Yes — this is exactly what our sporting club partnership program is for. It's free for the club, flexible, and tailored to what your club actually needs. Get in touch via the section above or email reception@thrivefunctionalhealth.com.au to start the conversation.
